Sound Log 


These are the sounds that Charlotte has recorded. 
  • Banging on a washing machine - Sounded good but peaked a couple of times
  • Moving a glass on the table -Really good  
  • Banging hand against the banister - Created a tinny echo sound
  • Spoon in a bowl - Created a tinny effect
  • Fridge door banging - Peaked 
  • Scrailing the radiator - Gave us an echo with a slight tinny effect
  • Scratching the sofa - created a deep scratching sound 
  • Scratching a laptop - Created a higher pitched scratch sound
  • Tapping on a table  - Worked well
  • Static from the radio - Used for the glitch and as static at the start of the film
  • Closing freezer draws - useful in creating the glitch sound as it was a deep tone. 
  • Flicking a plastic bottle - Added a higher pitch to the second glitch sound
  • Door banging shut Peaked
  • Laughing - Used at the end of the film to contrast the makeup being removed. 
From these sounds I created two separate glitch sounds to use throughout our film. To create the first glitch sound I used:
  • Closing freezer draw
  • Static radio 
  • Scratching the sofa 
  • Scrailing the radiator 
  • Spoon in bowl
For the second glitch sound I used: 
  • Closing freezer draw
  • Static radio 
  • Scratching the sofa 
  • Scrailing the radiator 
  • Spoon in bowl
  • Flicking a plastic bottle

Sound Design Components

Sound Design Components For the sound design I was hoping to create a track to sound like a burning fire. I found this a lot more difficult than I first thought. Each time I attempted to make the track I found that it sounded a lot like rain. However I kept working on it and found some sounds online that I mixed with the sizzling Charlotte had recorded. Working with the volumes and the order of the sound, in a short amount of time I created something I am relatively happy with. I was hoping to slow down the cracks in the sizzle but was unable to as I couldn't figure out how to do it on pro tools and I was working on it late so unfortunately there was no one around to ask for assistance. For the boiling water I was hoping to make it sound like a science experiment by mixing the sound with that of clanging beakers and possibly a Bunsen burner. Film Theories

Film Theories Our experimental films fit well into the Feminist Film Theory and the Formalist Film Theory.  "Theoretical film criticism derived from feminist politics and feminist theory. Feminists have many approaches to cinema analysis, regarding the film elements analysed and their theoretical underpinnings." I feel that our films relate to this theory as we are creating a message about stereotypes, specifically gender stereotypes in Diverge. However; the formalist theory "film study that is focused on the formal, or technical, elements of a film: i.e. lighting, scoring, sound and set design, use of colour, shot composition, and editing." also applies well to our two films. Diverge especially fits into the formalist theory as we used a two camera set up. We specifically created a world where we were focused on our actor.
